Hallyu Stars Born in the Year of Rabbit

As the year 2011 is the year of the rabbit, many star actors who were born in the year of rabbit – year 1951, 1963, and 1987 – are making a fresh resolution to make a new leap forward next year. Let's take a look at those stars who were born in the year of the rabbit and have actively been performing in the various fields of broadcasting, movies, and music.

◇ Broadcasting industry = Among stars who were born in 1975, works of comedians are expected to stand out. Comedians such as Kim Byeong-man, Kim Joon-ho, Park Joon-hyeong, and Kim Sook are those who will become 36 years old next year. They had already became star comedians with their appearances on live comedy programs on terrestrial broadcasting, and they will also plan to generate laughter among viewers in the next year. Among actors, Seong Hyeon-ah, Woo Hee-jin, Han Go-eun, Oh Man-seok, Choi Ji-woo, Yoon Son-ha, Lee Tae-ran, and Myeong Se-bin were born in the year of rabbit in 1975. And actors who were born in 1987, another year of the rabbit, Lee Min-ho and Moon Geun-yeong, are expected to perform brilliant exploits. Lee Min-ho is now planning to appear in the drama "City Hunter", which is based on the original Japanese cartoon, and Moon Geun-yeong is reportedly reviewing various movie scripts for her next work. Actor Jang Geun-seok, who appears in the drama "Marry Me, Mary!" with Moon Geun-yeong, was also born in 1987. Actress Han Hyo-joo, who achieved great success with her appearance in the drama "Dong Yi", and Joo Won, who had successfully introduced himself in the drama "Bread, Love and Dreams", are the same age with Moon and Jang. Actress Hwang Sin-hye, who is appearing in the drama "Home Sweet Home", and Lee Jae-yong-I, who is appearing in the drama "President", are also those stars who were born in 1963, the year of the rabbit. Hwang and Lee have something in common -- they have an extremely young appearance regardless of their age. Veteran actresses Ko Doo-sim, Kim Ja-ok, and Han Hye-sook were born in 1951 and become 60 years old next year, and they all are still enthusiastically continuing their activities. Song Jae-ho, who is actively appearing in both movies and broadcasting, and Jeon Won Ju, who is still enjoying popularity with her witty way of talking, were born in 1931.

◇ Movie Industry = Movie directors who were born in 1975 and had revealed their rising senses after reaching their thirties are noticeable. Director Jang Hoon, who had been acknowledged with his first movie "Rough Cut", and then successfully attracted 5.46 million viewers with his second movie "Secret Reunion", will come back to the movie industry with his new movie entitled "Battle of Highlands". The movie, in which actor Sin Ha-gyoon and Ko Soo appear, is about soldiers of South and North Korea who have to participate in mortal combat during the ceasefire negotiation. It will be a blockbuster war movie funded by more than 10 billion won. Director Han Jae-rim, who had been spotlighted with his debut movie "Rules of Dating" and his second movie "The Show Must Go on", will also produce a movie based on the original cartoon "Trace", which has been evaluated as a Korean-style cartoon about a hero with the same title. Director Yang Joon-ik, who had garnered 23 awards in the various international film festivals with his movie "Breathless", is also one of those who were born in the year of the rabbit. Now he is filming a short movie shot with a camcorder. Director Kim Jong-kwan, who had produced "Come, Closer", is also preparing for his next work. There are also directors who were born in 1963. Director Park Chan-wook is preparing a new movie entitled "Le Transperceneige" (working title) along with director Bong Joon-ho and preparing to advance into Hollywood with his movie "Stoker", in which Jodie Foster and Carey Hannah Mulligan appear. And director Yoo Ha, who had made "A Dirty Carnival" and "A Frozen Flower", will make a movie entitled "Howling". Among actors who were born in 1975, actor Lee Seon-gyoon's activities are most anticipated. He is enjoying huge popularity with his new movie "Petty Romance", in which he acted with actress Choi Kang-hee, and he will appear in the next movie with actor Park Joong-hoon. Actress Seon Woo-seon (born in 1975) will appear in the movie "Pyongyang Castle", which will be released early next year, and Ryoo Deok-hwan (born in 1987), who had appeared in the movie "Like A Virgin", will challenge himself by appearing in a thriller movie entitled "Head".

◇ Music Industry = Singers who were born in the year of the rabbit in 1987 mostly consist of members of idol groups; they debuted as singers, but they are actually actively performing as "multi-players" by appearing in various movies, musicals, and other entertainment. Top (Choi Seung-hyeon, Big Bang), Choi Si-won, Kim Ki Bum, and Ryeo Wook (Super Junior), Kim Gyoo-jong, Park Jung-min, and Kim Hyung-joon (SS501), GO (MBLAQ), Park Geon-il (Supernova), Son Ga-in (Brown Eyed Girls), Lee Joo-yeon-I (After School), Soyeon (T-ara), and the former member of 2PM Jae Beom are those stars who were born in 1987. Top (Choi Seung-hyeon) had taken on the challenge of acting by appearing in the drama "IRIS" and in the movie "71-Into the Fire", Choi Si-won is also appearing in the drama "'Athena", Son Ga-in and Lee Joo-yeon-I are also appearing in the sitcom drama "All my Love" and drama "Smile, Dong-hae", respectively, and Jae Beom will also appear in the movie "Hype Nation". Ryeo Wook and Kim Hyung-joon had appeared in musical works before. Seo In Kook, the winner of "Superstar K – Season one" last year, was also born in 1987, and successfully debuted as a solo singer with his hit songs such as "Love U" and "My Baby U". Star singers such as Maya, Harisu, Sin Jeong-hwan, and Woo Seung-min in "All Lies Band" were born in 1975. Shin Jung Hwan, who had shown outstanding performances by appearing on many entertainment programs, has been caught up in controversy with the accusation illegal gambling in the Philippines in early September, and is still staying overseas, so many people are paying attention to his comeback.

Review: "You're Beautiful" (Korean Drama)

From the writers of my favorite k-drama My Girl comes the irresistible television hit You're Beautiful, which takes viewers into the exciting and hectic world of K-pop showbiz!

Tae-kyung (Jang Keun-suk / Jang Geun-suk) is A.N.JELL's arrogant and insufferable lead singer. Guitarist Shinwoo (Jung Yong-hwa of CNBlue) is too perceptive for his own good, and happy-go-lucky drummer Jeremy (Lee Hong-ki of F.T. Island) is just plain slow on the uptake. Into the boy band mix comes A.N.JELL's bumbling newbie, Minam (Park Shin-hye). But what the fans don't know is that he's actually a she! Roped into posing as her twin brother, Minam has to hide her real identity. But secrets have a way of coming out, especially when her bandmates start falling for her!

Read the reviews from those who bought & watched the dvd from Amazon!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Korean Drama I've Ever Seen, September 7, 2010

You're Beautiful is a wholesome, fun, engaging drama about the classic "girl plays boy" scenario. The disks are USA coded, the subtitles are embedded so that they play automatically (and they are in English) and each episode is a full hour of hilarious fun! My sixteen year old niece was immediately interested in the storyline, which focuses on the daily life of a girl named Ko Mi Nyu who is pretending to be her twin brother, Ko Mi Nam. It is a refreshingly innocent experience after shows like True Blood that showcase loose morality and easy sex. There are sixteen episodes and I can guarantee that you will play them one right after the other, just to find out what could possibly happen next! In all, an excellent show with an amazing cast and a very catchy soundtrack that will leave you feeling good in the aftermath.

5.0 out of 5 stars YOU SHOULD WATCH THIS AWESOMENESS!, August 11, 2010

this is one of the best dramas i have ever watched! it is in my top 2! and i have watched A LOT of dramas!
i love the characters! you think it is going to be a generic asian girl-pretends-to-be-boy drama, but it is WONDERFUL!
you really start to root for your favorite characters and feel the emotions with the characters!
when the devil fairy actress gets in the way you really start to dislike her and want to see go minam prevail!

shin woo, reminds me of ji hoo but with a slightly sadder feeling!
jeremy is adorable! you love him no matter what!

i ever write reviews like this, but my gosh this drama is so good, that i must spread the love!
i have told all of my friends to watch it, and bought the dvds so we can watch episodes together!

i didn't get any sleep while watching this!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Truly Wonderful Experience, July 28, 2010

I originally got this through a fansub...and am waiting for my official copy now.
A marvelous cast (the 4 main characters were 21 or younger) in well-developed roles. A somewhat transparent plot, but who cares? It is fun...and, just like most Asian comedies, it will also make you cry. The music is excellent...well beyond the usual K-Pop/J-Pop stuff.

Park Shin-Hye steals the show, with a funny take on gender bender stuff. There are so many hilarious scenes...and so many heartbreaking scenes...but, I don't play the spoiler. Her first vocal effort is also in the show...Lovely Day...and it is a lovely song.

I rank this with Densha Otoko as the best of the J/K-Dramas. Other good titles include Boys Over Flowers and Palace.

After you see this series, you will wonder why US TV sucks as badly as it does.

Just buy it...you WILL not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful cast, beautiful soundtrack, I love this drama!, July 7, 2010

I'm an American who loves watching foreign drama but I was starting to give the habit up since I had a hard time finding one that would capture my interest when I came across this one gem of a story.
I fell totally in love with "You're Beautiful". The cast was amazing, so much so, that I just couldn't stop watching.

To top it off, the soundtrack made me want to run out and learn Korean asap! The melodies were entrancing and beautiful. The talent in this show was absolutely flawless, from the singing to the acting.

It was funny, heartwrenching and lovely. I'm buying this item. It's well worth the money and the time.

Let's Be Friends TV Show Interview in Taiwan

Sukkie was in Taiwan for just 4 days but he created quite astir there. In his tight schedule, he went on ‘Let’s be friends’. The host came to know that Sukkie was full of complements for Taiwan’s oolong tea. He specially prepared 1 carton of oolong tea for Sukkie which surprised him in a happy way, and opened up the oolong tea and drink on the spot. At the end of the show, the workers were tidying up the site and happened to move the carton. Sukkie got worried and said ‘that’s mine’.

The host also played a game of bowling with Sukkie. Sukkie said that the bowling portion was what he had been looking forward to in this Taiwan trip. He played the game with continuous strike. People present were all impressed. The 2nd paragraph talked about how he started out as a child actor and talked about the hardships in this line. He also said how he gave up everything as an actor when he was 15 years old and went to New Zealand to study. Then he talked about how life was not easy in New Zealand where he had to take care of himself and how he had to be thrifty by buying a sofa and used it as bed. Sukkie said he quite idolized Jay Chou and hope to belike the pianist that Jay Chou acted in his movie ‘不能说的秘密’. The host suggested to him though, that in Taiwan, you need to act as a baddie in the show to be famous. Sukkie immediately acted out ‘Annoying Orange’. In the 3rdparagraph, Sukkie talked about the kind of girl he likes… big eyes, well-defined neckline and proportioned figure. The host then showed Sukkie pictures of 4 ladies (who are very popular in Taiwan among those guys who love to stay at home), Sukkie chose 李毓芬. Mischievous Sukkie even wanted to bring back the picture of 李毓芬 and let her be his Taiwan’s girlfriend. Following that, I think they showed him some pictures of girls dressed scantily (if I’m not wrong). Sukkie laughed saying that whenever he sees this kind of pictures, he will unintentionally looked at the side or bottom of the pictures. Then the ladies on set started to make noises of disapproval. Sukkie shouted shyly and rally the host and the production group to agree with him. That guys are all like that…

Lastly, he talked about his skin regime which is drink and not removing his make-up and fall asleep. He said that at the celebration after the Taiwan FM, some fans gave him a bottle of champagne which is taller than a man. He shared with his team and drank about 50 glasses himself. Sukkie said he will start smiling at people when he is drunk and kept asking people to bottom up. The host then asked him if he will go around kissing people. Sukkie laughed loudly and said ‘No such things’.

'Geun-Geun couple', Jang Geun-seok and Moon Geun-yeong, from KBS 2TV Mon-Tue drama "Marry Me, Mary!" aka "Mary Stayed Out All Night", revealed their leftover pictures during the shooting.

Jang Geun-seok (or Jang Geun Suk) and Moon Geun-yeong, who is acting as a simulation couple in this drama, showed off their youthfulness through these pictures.
They worked really well with an advantage of being same age. They monitor each other after the shooting and share their acting experiences with each other; they even take a cute pose when they find a camera.
Moon Geun-yeong said, “Jang Geun-seok is a very enthusiastic actor. He always breaks the ice in the shooting spot. Since we share many similarities, we are learning from each other a lot.”

Your beautiful 美男 (mi nam) Jang Geun Suk (Hangul: 장근석; Chinese: 张根奭 or 张根锡) has a new korean drama currently on air called "Marry Me, Mary!" (International English Title: Mary Stayed Out All Night; Romanization: Maerineun Uibakjoong; Hangul: 매리는 외박중; Hanja: 玛丽外宿中). This KBS2 drama is based on the popular internet comic "Maerineun Uibakjoong" by Won Su Yeon, who also wrote the comic "Full House" which was adapted into the 2004 KBS hit drama "Full House" starring Rain Bi and Song Hye Kyo (Chinese: 宋惠橋). "Maerineun Uibakjoong" was first published online via cartoon.media.daum.net on February 6, 2009. It was then published as comic book on November 24, 2009. Her father always makes troubles as a failed businessman, but she also loves him the most. Because Mary can't afford to pay her college tuition fees, she temporarily stops attending school. Without having any special skills, Mary starts to work odd jobs. One day, Mary's father proposes that Mary marries a man named Jung-In to pay off their debts. While Mary takes fake wedding pictures, Mary finds herself in the position of committing bigamy: marrying a second man. During Mary's first 100 days of marriage to two men, Mary starts to fall in love with Mu-Gyul. Then while working as Jung-In's secretary, she starts to develop feelings for him as well. Mary finds herself torn between two different men with different types of charm.

Mu-Gyul (Jang Geun-Suk) is the lead vocalist and guitarist for a rock band. He is chic and lives a carefree bohemian lifestyle. He doesn't talk much and only wants to make music. Mu-Gyul doesn't care about success. He also suffers trauma with his mother and, because of this, becomes tired of the women he dates and leaves them. Mu-Gyul is a bad guy to women. When it appears Mu-Gyul will never get married a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity comes about. He meets Mary, money becomes involved and a 100 days of marriage ensues. During this time, Mu-Gyul not knowing the meaning of family, surprisingly falls in love with Mary who is combative, loyal, and spunky. Mu-Gyul finds himself becoming a rival of Jung-In for Mary's love.

Jung-In (Kim Jae-Wook) is the president of music company JI Entertainment producing a music drama. Jung-In was born into a wealthy family and has never lacked money. Jung-In is also good looking and has good manners. Because of this, Jung-In appears to be highly eligible bachelor for marriage. But, Jung-In also has a cold side - he doesn't like becoming too close to people. His weakest point is that he can never say no to his father. He enters into a 100 day fake marriage with Mary and soon falls in love with Mary. Jung-In also comes across Mu-Gyul who will help fulfill Jung-In's dream in the music world. Mu-Gyul will also become a rival for Jung-In over Marry. Then Seo-Jun enters the picture.

Seo-Jun (Kim Hyo-Jin) is a sexy and sophisticated woman. She also comes from a rich family. Seo-Jun works as an actress, preferring to make movies rather than dramas. Seo-Jun broke up with Mu-Gyul about a year ago, but still occasionally attends his performances without his knowledge. She also has the same care-free spirit as Mu-Gyul. Seo-Jun then meets Mu-Gyul once again and makes a contract for a drama produced by Jung-In. Seo-Jun starts to develop feelings for Jung-In in a bizarre love triangle.

A press release from Tree J. announced that Jang will visit four cities in Japan for a total five shows in the country, beginning with fan meeting in Fukuoka on Friday.

An official from Tree J. explained that they have received numerous inquiries after the announcement of Jang's fan meeting in November and tickets were sold out as soon as they went on sale.

He also said they have added an additional date to the tour after the show in Yokohama for fans who were not able to purchase tickets for his other shows.

"I am really happy and excited about my upcoming tour since I will be able to update my fans as well as talk about my new drama 'Marry Me, Mary!'", Jang was quoted as saying.

He will meet and greet fans, talk about his new drama "Marry Me, Mary!" aka "Mary Stayed Out All Night" and for the first time ever, sing a song from the show's soundtrack.

Jang, 23, began his career in show business at the early age of five as a catalog model. He is well-known for his roles in MBC's sitcom "Nonstop 4" and "Beethoven Virus".

He is currently playing the role of Mugyul, an Indie rocker, in the new KBS show "Marry Me, Mary!" opposite Moon Geun-yeong.
