"The Fugitive Plan B" to air in Japan in April this year

TV series "The Fugitive Plan B" [KBS]

KBS TV series "The Fugitive Plan B" will go on air in Japan starting April this year.

CEO Ahn Hyung-soo of the production company of the show told Sports Today over the phone, "It has been decided that the show will begin its air in Japan. Starting April, 'Fugitive' will be broadcasted on So-net, a station affiliated with Sony Group". Ahn added they are currently in talks with other public networks in Japan as well.

In October, the distribution rights to "Fugitive" was sold to seven countries in Asia including Taiwan, the Philippines, Thailand, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.

"The Fugitive Plan B", which has ended its run in December last year, is helmed by noted director Kwak Jeong-hwan and written by Cheon Seong-il, the creative duo behind the 2010 hit series "The Slave Hunters".

The action-comedy drama, starring Rain, Lee Na-young and Daniel Henney, is about a detective and his female client getting chased by cops and gangs as they get entangled in a case searching for gold that disappeared almost a century ago.

The 20-part series first scored viewership ratings in the 20 percent range when it aired on October 7 and has maintained its position at No. 2 on the Wednesday and Thursday primetime slot with ratings in the 13 to 15 percent range.

Charmaine Sheh Not Filming 'Forensic Heroes 3'

Due to an arm injury, it's confirmed Charmaine Sheh (Chinese name: 佘詩曼) won't star in upcoming TVB drama "Forensic Heroes 3" (Chinese title: 《法證先鋒III》).

The TVB actress has been filming in Mainland recently and was about to return to Hong Kong. When she was getting off a car at the airport, she slipped and her left arm elbow hit the ground first, which caused her joint to dislocate. She is expected to take several weeks off to treat her arm.

Charmaine talked about her current condition on the phone yesterday and sounded quite weak: "My leg started to numb, and doctors said nerves are being pressed. My hand hurts a lot. My waist can't stay in the same position for too long, so I didn't sleep well last night."

The 2006 TV Queen is disappointed that she couldn't collaborate with TV King Wayne Lai (Chinese name: 黎耀祥) this time. She's upset that her accident affected the drama, which started filming already.

Producer of the drama Mui Siu Ching (Chinese name: 梅小青) is in a rush to find someone equivalent to Charmaine. She stressed it's more important for the actress to be in good health.

"Even if she forces herself to work, her joint could be dislocated again easily. She might need to do physical therapy exercises after resting 6 weeks," she said.

Male lead of the drama Wayne was superstitious that he thought his bad luck might have ruined his chance to collaborate with Charmaine. As for who is his desired female lead replacement, he can't think of one yet.

"It's hard to say," he said. "But it's more important for her to be pretty, since I'm a handsome man in the drama."

In addition, it's said Maggie Cheung would take Charmaine's role.

Hong Kong TVB Station Sold!

I was so shocked initially and shook my head repeatedly in total disbelief when I heard from my mom that TVB business is folding! How could that happen?

No way!

Thousands of Hong konger staff would be dismissed?

No more quality Hong Kong dramas to spice up my daily boring home-to-and-fro-home life?

-

(photo of Sir Run Run Shaw by hkchcc.org)

-

To clarify my 'fear' and doubt, I did a check online and found out, in relief, that TVB station might just only be sold to some tycoon or cash-rich businessmen from Taiwan. Phew~

Although TVB station is not winding down their business, which is for sure, will the arrival of a new hedge-man change anything internally? Will the quality of the programmes be affected? Will there be an internal reconstruction? I doubt things will remain the same again, because the new guys had to do something to show their presence at the least.

Anyway, here's the original article I read regarding the company's fate...

Please see Corrections & Amplifications below

While one company’s succession struggle is playing out much like a TV drama, control at Hong Kong’s iconic TV station is being passed on peacefully.

Hong Kong broadcaster Television Broadcasts Ltd.’s legendary co-founder and chairman, the 103-year-old Sir Run Run Shaw, has finally made a decision to sell his 26% stake in the company, reports The Wall Street Journal.

Other potential buyers that had been floated in the past include the chairman of Chinese property developer Country Garden Holdings Co., and more controversially, the vice chairman of Hong Kong developer Henderson Land Development Ltd. Peter Lee, son of billionaire Lee Shau-kee. The possibility that one of the Cantonese-speaking world’s most iconic media institutions could be sold to a tycoon sparked debate in Hong Kong over whether such a move could compromise TVB’s freedom of speech.

The consortium buying Sir Run Run’s stake includes private equity firm Providence Equity Partners LLC, Charles Chan, chairman of Hong Kong-listed holding company ITC Corp. Ltd., as well as Taiwanese businesswoman Cher Wang, chairman of smartphone maker HTC Corp.

The value of the stake is not clear, but based on Wednesday’s closing price the stake is worth some HK$5.23 billion (US$670.5 million). Vivek Couto, executive director at media research firm Media Partners Asia, says the deal is a way for TVB to finally unlock some of its value, particularly in its China business, as there is little room for much growth in Hong Kong where the broadcaster commands some 80% of market share.

“No one was throwing any money at it [TVB]…now it’s a good opportunity for them to finally do something in China,” said Mr. Couto.

It’s also worth noting that this isn’t the first time a Taiwanese tycoon has shown interest in Hong Kong’s media industry. Tsai Eng-meng, who controls the snack giant Want Want China Holdings Ltd., bought a minority stake in TVB’s ailing competitor, Asia Television Ltd. in 2009, though the broadcaster remains mired in an ownership struggle.

A person with knowledge of the deal said the the involvement of cash-rich Taiwanese investors in Hong Kong media satisfies Taiwanese lawmakers and regulators who might be concerned that influential Chinese-language broadcasters become too closely aligned with mainland Chinese interests. TVB operates TVBS, a top three player in Taiwan’s TV industry.

TVB shares are down 5% on Thursday midday and ITC up 15%.

Corrections & Amplifications: The private equity firm buying a stake of TVB is Providence Equity Partners. An earlier version of this article incorrectly referred to Providence Equity Partners as Providence Capital Partners.

Eric-Yunho drama "Poseidon" poised for broadcast this Spring or Summer

Officers-at-sea drama Poseidon starring Shinhwa Eric and TVXQ Yunho, has secured a place on SBS’s 2011 schedule, and will be coming to us as a Monday-Tuesday drama sometime in May. An SBS rep confirmed the news on the 28th, and although the drama doesn’t have a specific premiere date yet, that’ll probably depend on the broadcast runs of its predecessor shows.

Those would be SBS’s current Monday-Tuesday action show Athena: Goddess of War, to be followed by Lee Min-jung and Jang Hyuk’s stocks- and business-related drama Midas. The latter is tentatively planning for a March premiere, and whenever that wraps, Poseidon will step in.

Poseidon takes place out at sea as our two leads, Eric (Strongest Chil Woo) and Kim Kang-woo (Story of a Man), are plucked from the maritime police to be part of an elite force of counterterrorist officers, called the Poseidon team. Also starring are Kim Ok-bin (Thirst) and Jeon Hye-bin (Yacha), two lovely ladies who will probably mix things up on the romance front, as well as idol-actor U-Know Yunho, who’s hoping his second foray into dramas will shake out better than his disappointing debut (Heading to the Ground).

Hmm, the Athena-Midas-Poseidon lineup suggests that SBS is aiming to keep its Mondays and Tuesdays fixed on dramatic, star-studded, thriller and/or action-type fare. Interesting choice; if the shows do well, they could really sew up the timeslot. Generally, we’ve seen a lot of long-running dramas and light comedies air on those days. The counterprogramming seems to be doing all right for Athena at present.

For some reason, although Poseidon didn’t really land on my radar at first, I find I’m warming to the idea. Perhaps because it’s a world we haven’t seen in kdramas before, or perhaps it’s because I love the friends-or-rivals dynamic of the leads. (As Dr. Champ showed us, it’s a most excellent way to get our bromance fix.) And perhaps it’s also because I love Kim Kang-woo, and have missed Eric in the past two years that he’s been serving in the military.

Here are some behind-the-scene-photos taken at the shooting scene of Poseidon.

Review: "You're Beautiful" (Korean Drama)

From the writers of my favorite k-drama My Girl comes the irresistible television hit You're Beautiful, which takes viewers into the exciting and hectic world of K-pop showbiz!

Tae-kyung (Jang Keun-suk / Jang Geun-suk) is A.N.JELL's arrogant and insufferable lead singer. Guitarist Shinwoo (Jung Yong-hwa of CNBlue) is too perceptive for his own good, and happy-go-lucky drummer Jeremy (Lee Hong-ki of F.T. Island) is just plain slow on the uptake. Into the boy band mix comes A.N.JELL's bumbling newbie, Minam (Park Shin-hye). But what the fans don't know is that he's actually a she! Roped into posing as her twin brother, Minam has to hide her real identity. But secrets have a way of coming out, especially when her bandmates start falling for her!

Read the reviews from those who bought & watched the dvd from Amazon!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Korean Drama I've Ever Seen, September 7, 2010

You're Beautiful is a wholesome, fun, engaging drama about the classic "girl plays boy" scenario. The disks are USA coded, the subtitles are embedded so that they play automatically (and they are in English) and each episode is a full hour of hilarious fun! My sixteen year old niece was immediately interested in the storyline, which focuses on the daily life of a girl named Ko Mi Nyu who is pretending to be her twin brother, Ko Mi Nam. It is a refreshingly innocent experience after shows like True Blood that showcase loose morality and easy sex. There are sixteen episodes and I can guarantee that you will play them one right after the other, just to find out what could possibly happen next! In all, an excellent show with an amazing cast and a very catchy soundtrack that will leave you feeling good in the aftermath.

5.0 out of 5 stars YOU SHOULD WATCH THIS AWESOMENESS!, August 11, 2010

this is one of the best dramas i have ever watched! it is in my top 2! and i have watched A LOT of dramas!
i love the characters! you think it is going to be a generic asian girl-pretends-to-be-boy drama, but it is WONDERFUL!
you really start to root for your favorite characters and feel the emotions with the characters!
when the devil fairy actress gets in the way you really start to dislike her and want to see go minam prevail!

shin woo, reminds me of ji hoo but with a slightly sadder feeling!
jeremy is adorable! you love him no matter what!

i ever write reviews like this, but my gosh this drama is so good, that i must spread the love!
i have told all of my friends to watch it, and bought the dvds so we can watch episodes together!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Truly Wonderful Experience, July 28, 2010

I originally got this through a fansub...and am waiting for my official copy now.
A marvelous cast (the 4 main characters were 21 or younger) in well-developed roles. A somewhat transparent plot, but who cares? It is fun...and, just like most Asian comedies, it will also make you cry. The music is excellent...well beyond the usual K-Pop/J-Pop stuff.

Park Shin-Hye steals the show, with a funny take on gender bender stuff. There are so many hilarious scenes...and so many heartbreaking scenes...but, I don't play the spoiler. Her first vocal effort is also in the show...Lovely Day...and it is a lovely song.

I rank this with Densha Otoko as the best of the J/K-Dramas. Other good titles include Boys Over Flowers and Palace.

After you see this series, you will wonder why US TV sucks as badly as it does.

Just buy it...you WILL not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful cast, beautiful soundtrack, I love this drama!, July 7, 2010

I'm an American who loves watching foreign drama but I was starting to give the habit up since I had a hard time finding one that would capture my interest when I came across this one gem of a story.
I fell totally in love with "You're Beautiful". The cast was amazing, so much so, that I just couldn't stop watching.

To top it off, the soundtrack made me want to run out and learn Korean asap! The melodies were entrancing and beautiful. The talent in this show was absolutely flawless, from the singing to the acting.

It was funny, heartwrenching and lovely. I'm buying this item. It's well worth the money and the time.

Interactive drama "The Music Show" will air on NTV in January 2, 2011

2010-12-01 - NTV will broadcast a drama special in early January titled "The Music Show," which promises to be the first of its kind: the show's viewers will be able to determine the story's ending through an interactive voting process.

The drama is being written and directed by Takuro Oikawa, who also worked on the similar 2009 drama "The Quiz Show 2009," which starred Arashi's Shou Sakurai. Sakurai plays the host of a live TV quiz program. On the show, contestants who achieve 7 correct answers win 10 million yen, and those who get 8 correct answers will have one of their wishes granted by the TV network. But while the questions start off innocently enough, as the game progresses, the questions gradually delve into the contestants' past crimes or indiscretions, presenting them with the dilemma of having to confess their guilt in order to win. Sakurai's character also has a mysterious past. Before becoming the show's host, an accident had left him in a vegetative state for six years, which also resulted in him losing most of his memories. The supporting cast includes Kanjani8's Yu Yokoyama as the show’s director, Aya Matsuura as a rookie assistant director, and Miki Maya as the producer.

Like that show, the setting for "The Music Show" is a television program with "ordinary" contestants. Here, they will be competing as part of a music artist audition, while tension builds towards the final decision.

Viewers with television sets capable of digital data transmission will reportedly be able to vote for the competition's winner, affecting the story's outcome. The drama will also feature some original songs, which will be available as digital downloads on the Internet immediately after the show ends.

With Japan completing its shift from analog to digital television next year, this show may become a test case for similar interactive experiments in the future.

The cast will star Ikki Sawamura (沢村 一樹, Sawamura Ikki, born July 10, 1967) as the show's MC, Ken Yasuda (安田显) as the producer, and Keiko Toda (戸田恵子)and Mirei Kiritani (桐谷美玲) as two contestants. The judges will be played by Nana Katase (片瀬那奈) and Tooru Kazama.

"The Music Show" is scheduled for broadcast on January 2, 2011 at 11:30pm.
