Ueno Juri (上野樹里; 23) is a rising star in Japan ~ starring as the number one leading actress in 2011 winter season's 50th NHK Taiga drama "Gou" aka 江; Tagline: 姫たちの戦国 (Romanji: Himetachi no Sengoku). The taiga drama (大河ドラマ) will show on Sundays at 20:00 (8:00pm) from January 2011 to December 2011.
The story focuses on the life of Gou (a.k.a Oeyo – 於江与; portrayed by Ueno Juri), a wife of the second Tokugawa shogun Hidetada Tokugawa (徳川 秀忠). Gou was the third daughter of the daimyo Nagamasa Azai (浅長政), who was married to Oichi (お市) the sister of Nobunaga Oda (織田信長). One of Gou’s older sisters was the wife of Toyotom Hideyoshi (豊臣秀吉), while the other married the daimyo Kyougoku Takatsugu (京極高次).

Filming of the drama has began.
This is the 10th time a female has the main role in the 50 years of NHK taiga dramas.
Both Tabuchi Kumiko (田渕久美子) and Yoshimata Ryo (吉俣良) have worked on the taiga drama Atsu-hime (2008) which was successful and its soundtrack broke the best selling record.
