* Anyone knows how to get the tickets to Kaiji 2's gala premiere in Singapore?? I wanna go!!!

The movie is a sequel of KAIJI: THE ULTIMATE GAMBLER (released in Singapore on 11 March 2010) and also an adaptation based on Noboyuki Fukumoto’s hit manga series.

KAIJI: THE ULTIMATE GAMBLER is a stylish and exciting psychological adventure/thriller revolving around a young man (Tatsuya Fujiwara) forced to enter a deadly gambling competition aboard a cruise ship, as a result of his large financial debt.

The original manga was first published in Young Magazine (Kodansha) in 1996, and its radical plot revolving around the art of gambling and the clever portrayal of its characters’ psychology brought it instant popularity, with 39 volumes in total, which have sold over 13 million copies.

Having took in more than 2.1 billion yen (US$24 million) at the box-office within a month of its release in Japan, KAIJI: THE ULTIMATE GAMBLER has already secured its place as one of the biggest hits of the year 2010.

Its sequel, KAIJI 2, is scheduled for release on 5 November in Japan, and in Singapore on 17 November 2011. In KAIJI 2, Kaiji (Tatsuya Fujiwara) takes on the mother of all pachinko machines named "Numa" - a machine having the top jackpot of over 1 billion yen. Meanwhile, Seiya Ichizo (Yusuke Iseya) controls the machine from a remote location to ensure the machine never pays out the jackpot . The two men soon find themselves facing off in a high stakes game.

Tatsuya Fujiwara, one of Japan’s foremost international star today, is well known for his role as "Light Yagami", the leading role in the No. 1 Japanese blockbuster series 'Death Note and Death Note 2'.

He is also recently seen in 'The Incite Mill' and voiceover in 'The Borrower Arrietty'.

His very first role which won him much attention outside of Japan, was his part as "Shuya Nanahara" in Fukasaku Kinji's controversial film 'Battle Royale', a role he reprised in the sequel, 'Battle Royale II: Requiem'.

KAIJI 2 is co-distributed by Encore Films and Cathay-Keris Films.

New-Year Cinema Preview: Big Names Line Up

There will be fierce competition this Christmas at Chinese box offices with the works of five of the country's most acclaimed directors, including Zhang Yimou and Feng Xiaogang, being screened during the New Year season, Sina.com.cn reports.

Feng Xiaogang, whose 2008 romantic comedy "If You Are the One" (非诚勿扰) was the most profitable domestic film of that year, is planning on making a sequel that is slated for release around December 25.

Feng told Sina.com.cn about the sequel which he plans to start filming on July 25 and wrap up on October 5.

"It won't miss the New Year season," Feng was quoted as saying. "It won't let you down."

"If You Are the One 2" stars Ge You and Shu Qi from the previous film as well as new addition Yao Chen.

Also up for a December release is Zhang Yimou's drama "The Love of the Hawthorn Tree", a poignant love story set at the end of the "cultural revolution" (1966-1976). No casting information has been revealed, but filming is likely to wrap up in August.

Last year, Zhang adapted the Coen Brothers' film "Blood Simple" into a black comedy called "A Simple Noodle Story". Zhang's first film since his Oscar-nominated "Curse of the Golden Flower" attracted intense media coverage, but failed to impress many critics.

Feng and Zhang's films will go face-to-face with three other long-awaited projects, including Chen Kaige's "Orphan of Zhao" (趙氏孤兒), Jiang Wen's "Let the Bullets Fly" (让子弹飞) and Wong Kar-Wai's "The Grand Master".

"Orphan of Zhao", an adaptation of a classic Chinese tale of revenge, will be released on December 18. It stars Ge You, Huang Xiaoming and Fan Bingbing.

Jiang Wen's gangster movie "Let the Bullets Fly" boasts a cast of stars led by Chow Yun-Fat, Ge You and director Jiang himself. It has been reported to be a Chinese look-alike of "Ocean's Eleven".

Wong Kar-Wai's "The Grand Master" is a biopic of Bruce Lee's mentor, Ip Man, who will be portrayed by Tony Leung. Zhang Ziyi also stars in the film.

The Chinese New Year season is arguably the most profitable season for the movie industry. Statistics provided by Sina.com.cn indicate that last year nearly 600 million yuan (US$87.9 million) was earned by mainland box offices in the 20 days around Christmas. That was one-tenth of the year's total box-office revenue.   --- CRIEnglish.com

SMAP's Shingo Katori to lend his voice in Takashi Yamazaki's 3D animated film

Director Takashi Yamazaki, who most recently helmed the live-action "Space Battleship Yamato" movie, is already working on his next project. Titled "Friends: Mononoke Shima no Naki", it will be Japan's first feature-length 3D CG-animated film, and it will star SMAP's Shingo Katori (香取慎吾, 33) as the voice of the main character. Yamazaki and Katori last worked together on the director's debut film "Juvenile" in 2000.

With the current popularity of 3D animated films such as "Toy Story 3," Yamazaki decided to try making the first one to come out of Japan. He already has some experience with CG effects in his live-action films such as "Always: Sanchome no Yuhi" and "Ballad: Namonaki Koi no Uta."

Kouichi Yamadera

Yamazaki wrote the screenplay for "Friends," based on a tear-jerker fairy tale titled "Naita Aka-Oni." The story revolves around a red oni named Naki (Katori) and a blue ogre named Gunjo (Kouichi Yamadera) who live on an island, depicting their friendship and their interaction with a human boy. Other voices are being provided by Sadawo Abe, Seishirou Katou, and YOU.

The film is expected to open in Japan in December 2011, playing in both 3D and 2D. Distributor Toho has stated that it aims for "Friends" to compete in the Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature. Toho also said that it has already received distribution offers from the United States and multiple Asian countries.

The entertainment news source Oricon is hosting the poster for the film. The film will play in theaters in stereoscopic 3D and traditional 2D.

More photos of Johnny Depp at the World Premiere!

In the new drama-thriller "The Tourist", Johnny Depp stars as an American tourist whose playful dalliance with a stranger leads to a web of intrigue, romance and danger in The Tourist.

During an impromptu trip to Europe to mend a broken heart, Frank (Depp) unexpectedly finds himself in a flirtatious encounter with Elise (Angelina Jolie), an extraordinary woman who deliberately crosses his path.

Against the breathtaking backdrop of Paris and Venice, their whirlwind romance quickly evolves as they find themselves unwittingly thrust into a deadly game of cat and mouse.

It takes one heck of a leading man to share screen time with Angelina Jolie. But Johnny Depp's quiet sex apeal ensures that the attention is equally shared in The Tourist, which hits theaters Dec. 10. "It was good fun," the actor told iVillage about the costars' families spending time together off screen. "Kids playing video games, the old guys -- me and Brad (Pitt)-- sitting around the table with (girlfriend) Vanessa (Paradis) and Angie hanging out talking. It was wonderful."

Ruggedly sexy Johnny Depp offers fans a sly smirk as he walks the red carpet at the New York City premiere of the steamy spy thriller The Tourist on Dec. 6.

At the Berlin premiere held on Dec 14, Angie & Brad, the Dashing Duo dazzled on the red carpet!

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt look gorgeous, as always -- but we can't quite understand why Angie needs gloves built into her elegant, velvet dress. No time for a mani, perhaps? More photos of Angie & Brad at the World Premiere!

Andy Lau and Jackie Chan collaborate again in Shaolin (2011) after 20 years

The year’s major kung-fu film "Shaolin" will open in the cinemas in January 2011 nationwide. The film gathered Hong Kong action film director Benny Chan, action director Cory Yuen, with a cast of Andy Lau, Nicholas Tse, Jackie Chan, Fan Bingbing, Wu Jing. It’s the first time since Andy and Jackie collaborate since Island of Fire in 1990, thus this film capture the attention of the media.

Twenty-one years ago, Andy Lau, Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Tony Leung Kar Fai collaborated in Island of Fire. Since then, because of their different film genre they did not get a chance to collaborate again. However, this film – Shaolin managed to bring these two superstars Andy and Jackie to collaborate again, however this time round, they switched positions.

It is said that Andy’s general character was betrayed by Nicholas Tse resulting to him losing his wife and children, he went into Shaolin Temple to become a monk, initially hope to gain revenge after mastering kung-fu. Unexpectedly he gained enlightenment from the cook (Jackie) whom has high knowledge in Buddhism but does not know kung-fu.

This time round, Andy made a breakthrough of his usual screen image, he was a handsome general whom had exciting fighting scenes against Nicholas and Wu Jing. Andy specially spent three months to practice Shaolin kung-fu as he managed to show off his realistic Shaolin’s 7-Star Fist. As Andy was too concentrated in the shooting, he got injuries in his right fist and legs. With regards to Andy’s kung-fu, Jackie exclaimed that Andy is a fast learner and able to become an action star, he has his own fighting style.

Jackie whom always fought on the silver screen is a monk whom only knows cooking, he’s not involved in any action scenes, all his scenes are talking, he even had a deep friendship with Andy. With regards to this, Andy quipped: “I already fought Jackie in Island of Fire, but I still does not dare to fight with him, I did have discussion with him during shooting, Jackie does not fight at all, we did not fight in Shaolin, not even a punch.” When talked about his character, Jackie expressed that he had gained a lot: “In the beginning feel that I don’t know kung fu, I master the kung-fu of cooking, I’m good at making buns.”

When talked about their relationship, Jackie said: “Although we did not collaborate in films, but we would meet up during charity events and matters of the guild, so we met all the times.” A mischievous Andy then said: “Jackie is good in the non-fighting scenes, he did not require me to give him tips at all.”

When talked about his cook monk character, Jackie revealed that he learn some cooking skills from his father, he also showed off his cooking skills in A Nice Guy and Wheels On Meals, however this cook monk character still has some difficulties for Jackie, “I made a lot of noodles today, it isn’t hard for me, cooking is another kind of kung-fu. I’m also good at changing the actions in cooking into kung-fu. The most difficult is when I need to say out those dialogues which are like sutra I’m making noodles or frying vegetables.” Andy also revealed that Jakcie was very popular among the children, “He would fry fish for the children, I had yet tasted his cooking.” It is said that both of them had no airs as htey mix around with the little monks. Andy also became the “king of children” by helping the little monks to choreograph dance.
However there is some accident for this hard-to-come-by collaboration of the two superstars, it is said that other than shooting Shaolin, Jackie is also busy shooting Zodiac, “I agreed to be cast in this film, since I gave my promise, I just cameo in the film!” Thus this is the collaboration of two superstars, although it took 20 years. They kept chatting with each other at the set, Jackie also witness personally Andy shaving his hair for the film, he sing praise of his professionalism: “He’s still so professional after a heavenly king for 20 years.”

Animal Stars of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" Arrive at the premiere in Tours, France

Remember Milo? The lovely little dog and the only friend of Stanley Ipkiss (played by Jim Carrey) in the 1994 movie The Mask? Cute, issn't it? It's played by Max, a purebred Jack Russell terrier, a breed known all over the world as particularly lively, intelligent and appealing. It's so adorable it kinda steal the limelight in the show.

Recently the animal stars of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" arrives at the premiere in Tours, France. Here are some photos of this lovely lot.

Hedwig was Harry Potter's pet Snowy Owl and magical familiar. She's a female but, in the movie, the actors playing her are males. She was a gift to Harry on his eleventh birthday from Rubeus Hagrid in 1991 on their journey together to Diagon Alley. Isn't she beautiful? I love the photo above. I love her smile. Great photo!

That's Crookshanks, Hermione's cat.

‘The Warrior’s Way’ flashes its mettle

The heat is on Jang Dong Gun (Hangul: 장동건; Hanja: 張東健), the first Korean actor to star in a major Hollywood film.

"The Warrior's Way" (《黄沙武士》) was screened at a press event at COEX, southern Seoul. The film stars Korean actor Jang Dong Gun, left, and American actress Kate Bosworth (born January 2, 1983). [NEWSIS]

The highly anticipated film "The Warrior's Way" was finally released to local media on 22nd November at a press screening in southern Seoul.

Led by renowned Hollywood producer Barrie M. Osborne, whose works include "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy and "The Matrix" (1999), this computer graphic-heavy Hollywood film has created a great deal of buzz because of its stellar creative team, which includes art director Dan Hennah, who participated in the 2005 version of "King Kong", and visual-effects art director Christian Rivers, who worked on The Lord of the Rings.

The global cast of A-list actors includes American actress Kate Bosworth and Australian actor Geoffrey Rush. Bosworth plays Lynne, a lady who dreams of killing her enemy, while Rush portrays a former cowboy who is now a drunk.

But what makes this film special for Korean moviegoers is the presence of Korean actor Jang Dong-gun, who is making his Hollywood debut in this film.

Jang got his start in the television drama "Our Heaven" in 1993. Since then, he has risen to superstardom here with roles in hit films such as "Taegukgi" (2004) and "Friend" (2001).

The film is directed by first-time Korean-American filmmaker Sngmoo Lee, who said the most difficult part of the production process was creating a unique setting entirely through the use of CG techniques.

"I didn't want to remind viewers of a particular country, because this is an action fantasy film", he said. "We had to create a fantastic and dreamy world, but it's all make-believe".

The film features the fight choreography of Japanese action director Yuji Shimomura, a protégé of Donnie Yen (甄子丹). Jang Dong Gun is best known in the West for his role 2004 tear jerking war movie "Taegukgi: The Brotherhood of War" (태극기 휘날리며), as one of the two brothers. Followed by the 2005 movie "The Promise" (simp:无极; trad:無極), which was not so succesful commercially seen, considering the fact that it had a stellar cast namely; Cecilia Cheung (simp:张柏芝; trad:張柏芝), and Nicolas Tse (simp:谢霆锋;trad:謝霆鋒 ) and a Mandarin speaking Hiroyuki Sanada (真田広之).

The fantasy action film tells the story of a lonely swordsman (Jang) who hides in a small town and learns how to build a relationship with the townspeople.

Even though most people may assume that having to speak in English is the most difficult part of Jang's new role, Jang said the hardest part was starting all over again in Hollywood,

"Of course it wasn't easy to act while speaking a different language, but the more challenging thing was that I had to prove myself to people who have no idea about me and what I can do", Jang told reporters at the press screening.

Jang is not the first Korean actor to cross into Hollywood. Lee Byeong Heon played a supporting role in "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" in 2009 and is also scheduled to appear in the sequel. Singer-actor Rain appeared in "Ninja Assassin", also in 2009.

But whereas his fellow actors were cast in supporting roles, Jang is the star of this film, which was reported to have a production budget of $100 million. That means the pressure is all on him.

It also probably doesn't help that the film has a rare scene in which an Asian man kisses a Caucasian woman.

While that scene, and Jang's role, could change perceptions of Asian men overseas, some say that Asian actors have a long way to go before that happens.

"Jackie Chan is a huge star in Hollywood and his image as a comedic and action star is what Westerners expect of Asian men - whether they are Chinese or Korean", said Yu Ji Na, a movie critic and film professor. "There is this fixed idea of what an Asian actor can do. If Korean actors want to appear as something other than a warrior, it's going to be very hard".

Culture critic Jeong Deok Hyun agrees.

"I think there should be a wider range of roles for Asian men", Jeong said. "To change the stereotype that Asian actors face, Korean filmmakers should try to produce a variety of films".

The Warrior's Way opens on 2nd December at Korea theaters nationwide and on Dec. 3 in the United States.
