Felix Wong enters top 5, 'fire' automatically put out

"TVB Anniversary Awards 2010" (2010 年萬千星輝頒獎典禮) will take place at TVB City on December 5th -- that night’s focus will of course be on the TV King and Queen competitions. In recent years, in efforts to comply with public opinion, the results of the awards as well as the top 5 nominees have been interesting and at times surprising to say the least – for example, allowing both Ha Yu (in 2008) and Wayne Lai (in 2009) to win TV King, despite their insistence on not signing management contracts with TVB.

According to reliable sources, this year, TVB will add another new twist to the awards – putting Felix Wong Yat Wah (黃日華) into the top 5 for TV King, despite his outburst at TVB earlier in the week due to their neglect of his series "Gun Metal Grey" (《刑警》)at the Anniversary Gala. This move on the part of TVB gives them the best of both worlds, as it allows them to appease Felix Wong while at the same time create hype and something to talk about prior to the awards – definitely a wise move on their part.

With regard to the remaining 4 artists rounding out the TV King category, they are rumored to be: Raymond Lam Fung (林峰), who is nominated for the series "Mysteries of Love" (《谈情说案》) and received a special letter written by TVB’s Vice-Chairman Mona Fong; Moses Chan Ho (陳豪), whose series "Can’t Buy Me Love" (《公主嫁到》) achieved a 45 point rating for its finale and is currently the highest rated series this year; "No Regrets" (《巾帼枭雄之义海豪情》)star Wayne Lai Yiu Cheung (黎耀祥), whose exquisite acting skills and overwhelming popularity this year put him into the ‘finalists’ field; and lastly, ‘biological son’ Steven Ma Chun Wai (馬浚偉).

It appears that netizens who have been voting on-line have the same ‘opinion’ on the top 5 artists for TV King, however the focus among netizens seems to be on Raymond Lam – as of yesterday, Raymond was in the lead with 1627 votes, while ‘hot favorite’ Wayne Lai only has 1161 votes.

Yesterday, Felix Wong made his first public appearance after his ‘outburst’, appearing with Michael Miu, Jessica Hsuan, Nancy Wu, etc. at a promotional event for "Gun Metal Grey". In another effort to appease Felix, TVB invited the main cast to do an interview on an upcoming episode of their entertainment news show "Scoop". Even "No Regrets" producer Lee Tim Sing was supportive of Felix, speaking out yesterday: “That was pretty bad -- the anniversary gala should have included a part for "Gun Metal Grey"!”

At the event yesterday, Felix seemed to be in good spirits, exclaiming: “I'm not angry! I'm just expressing my opinion as a viewer. Maybe I dare to speak out. I write out things I don't like. There is freedom of speech here in Hong Kong.” (TVB arranging an interview for the GMG cast to patch things up?) “It’s hard to say; since "No Regrets" is ending this week, there is more time to devote to other series, but at least the effort is there. Let’s all work together to do a good job.” (No more ‘fire’ then?) “There was no ‘fire’! It was simply a serious choice of words.”

As to whether he will attend the awards ceremony, Felix smiled and said: “It’s all up to Michael. If he goes, then I’ll go. Actually, from the beginning, I’ve stated that the awards ceremony is just a game, a show – I only care about the reaction that the audiences have to the series and also good word of mouth.” As for who his picks are for TV King and Queen, Felix expressed that he thinks Wayne and Sheren will repeat their wins from last year.

When asked whether he will be attending the awards ceremony, Michael Miu joked: “I don’t know if I’ll be invited. Maybe if I don’t get into top 5, then don’t need to go!” He also continued to support his buddy Felix, praising his boldness and daring words. Michael also revealed that Felix no longer used words such as ‘never film series for TVB again’ this time around, leaving the door open for future opportunities, which is ahuge improvement from the past.

Jessica Hsuan also voiced her support for Felix, expressing that it boils down to a matter of respect. She also revealed that she was invited to the gala, however she responded that she would not be able to attend because she was not available. Asked whether she thinks there has been enough promotion for GMG, Jessica stated: “It’s pretty basic promotion right now.” (But it’s an anniversary series?) “It’s regular series promotion.” (Is it because you guys are busy?) “Of course not!” However, Jessica also expressed that she already anticipated that promotion for the other anniversary series "No Regrets" would be different and is already used to the way the company does things -- if it suits her, she will do it, but if it doesn’t, then she will leave.
