'Dong Yi' Stars receive Warm Welcome in Hong Kong & Taiwan

Korean actor Ji Jin-hee (池珍熙) received a warm welcome from fans in Hong Kong over the weekend, according to his agency N.O.A. Entertainment.

N.O.A. stated through its press release Tuesday that Ji, who went on a promotional tour to Hong Kong to promote historical drama "Dong Yi" 《同伊》, received a hearty welcome from both drama fans and the press during his stay from December 11 to 13.

He was accompanied by actress Han Hyo-joo (韓孝珠) who was his co-star in the drama by producer Lee Byung-hoon of "Jewel in the Palace" fame.

During his three-day stay, Ji appeared on the local entertainment news show "CEN" of channel i-Cable with Han for an interview.

i-Cable channel has been airing "Dong Yi" at 9 p.m. on weekdays since November 15.

"I'm overwhelmed that 'Dong Yi' is so well received in Hong Kong", Ji was quoted as saying in the press release. "As a historical dramas are excellent chances to spread Korean traditional culture and history, the success of the drama is quite meaningful. I express my thanks to our fans who have shown much love for 'Dong Yi' following 'Dae Jang Geum' (2003)".

Ji and Han then received a plaque of appreciation from i-Cable for the high ratings the show has brought in and participated in fan meetings and other promotional events for the show. The two also held a press conference covered by numerous media outlets.



In the 60-part drama "Dong Yi", Ji plays the funny and romantic King Sook-jong who comes to love and protect a young place maid whose name is Dong-Yi, played by actress Han.

The 38-year old actor first visited Hong Kong in 2004 to promote "Dae Jang Geum" which was the mega-hit drama that helped him rose to instant stardom in the Asia region.

Since then he has starred in other dramas including "Miss Kim's adventures in Making a Million" (2004), "Spotlight" (2008), "He Who Can't Marry" (2009), and films "The Old Garden" (2007), "Bewitching Attraction" (2006), "Soo" (2007) and "Parallel Life" (2009).

"Dong Yi" main cast promotes series in Taiwan

Korean actors Ji Jin-hee, Han Hyo-joo and Bae Soo-bin visited Taiwan over the weekend to promote their TV series "Dong Yi".

Their agencies announced on Wednesday that the three stars were in Taiwan from November 14 to 16 to attend a promotional event hosted by Taiwan's GTV for MBC's historical epic "Dong Yi", which began its run in the prime time slot of GTV starting November 15.

After flying into the country on Saturday, Ji, Han and Bae met with about 1,000 fans the following day to speak about "Dong Yi".

At the event, Ji, who last visited Taiwan six years ago for "Dae Jang Geum", took pictures with the local fans with his own camera, Han played the haegeum [a two-stringed Korean traditional fiddle] which she had received from as gift, while Bae showed off his swordsmanship just like his character in the show.

The next day, the three stars were interviewed by numerous local medias including UDN.com, China Times, NEXT TV, MTV and Channel V and appeared on variety programs to promote their show.



"Dong Yi" is about a woman named Dong Yi who grows up to become Choi Suk-bin, a consort of King Sukjong and the mother of King Youngjo during the Joseon Dynasty.

The show had dominated Korea's TV ratings charts for Monday and Tuesday evenings, taking the No. 1 spot during its time slot for several weeks.

The 60-part series has also been sold to ten countries including Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
